Frequently asked Questions

What is the difference between counselling and coaching?

Both are similar to the extent that they involve a helping relationship. Counselling, however, focuses more on the past and helping to heal what has been difficult in your life such as relationship issues or trauma. The main question asked is ‘why’.
Coaching tends to be more guided conversation , centred around becoming more action-orientated, focusing on your current situation and how you want your future to look. It generally is a tool used in relation to people’s professional life, however, it can naturally have a personal impact as well. The main questions asked are ‘what:’ and ‘how?’

How long is a session?

Counselling is normally one hour in length. Coaching is one and a half hours. All work is preceded by a complimentary phone to discuss what you would like to get out of our meetings.
How do I make an appointment?

If you are interested and would like to find out more, please get in touch via phone, email or social media and I will explain which option might be best for you and answer any questions you may have. In relation to coaching, some further information will be sent out in advance of the first session to help you focus more on what you would like to achieve.
How many sessions will I need?

I carry out regular reviews (around every 4 sessions) as part of the process so that we can monitor your progress and decide if you require more. In relation to coaching, this is quite often set at 6 sessions with a mid way review. Some clients feel they have achieved what they want after 6-8 sessions, however, there is no definite rule for this – it is a very unique process for each individual and some people come for much longer.

I also offer ‘check-in’ sessions where you can come after you have finished with me in relation to the primary work agreed. This is what I call an opportunity to put the ‘finger on your pulse’, check how you are doing and bring any new material that needs aired.
Is it confidential?

Confidentiality is of paramount importance in our relationship and, in accordance with the Data Protection Act, I take all appropriate measures to keep your information and session content safe and secure.

Confidentiality is only broken in circumstances where I am concerned about your safety or the safety of others – or where I am legally obliged to do so. However, I will always seek to discuss this with you first and form a partnership in this regard.
I recognise and adhere to the code of ethics as set out by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as the Association of Coaching.
What happens if we meet elsewhere?

If we happen to meet outside of your sessions, I will not acknowledge you unless you acknowledge me first. This is a hard one for me as I know it may appear rude, however, it is coming from your right for privacy and confidentiality.
How does payment work?

I use BACS online payment, Revolut, cash or cheque.
